We use advanced imaging technology for better diagnosis.

In most cases a clinical exam by itself is not enough to completely diagnose all problems. X-rays and digital imaging play a key role in diagnosing what is really going on inside your mouth and below your teeth and gums. In addition to revealing any problems that are not visible to the naked eye during the clinical exam, these initial scans will also provide us with a benchmark to compare against during your future visits.

At Pt Chevalier Dental Center we are proud to offer the highest level of care to our community. A combination of the latest treatments and technologies and a genuine passion for patient care allow us to provide our patients with optimal experiences and results in our office every day. Whether you are here for aesthetic or health reasons, we welcome you to our practice.

Expert answers to your questions

Dr Patel chooses carefully which and when radiographs are taken. There are many guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyse the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumours, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.

Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal. Dr Patel utilises Digital Imaging Technologies within the office. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information. We may be able to see cavities better.

Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists.

Digital X-rays offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light. Digital X-rays results in 1/6th the radiation exposure to you.

Many patients, especially younger patients, are very familiar with the latest technology and are comfortable with the high tech practice. Computers and TV screens are their primary method of information processing.

Dr Patel utilises Intraoral Camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An Intraoral Camera is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimetres long. An Intraoral Camera allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make a diagnosis. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you!

Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab.

Primescan® is an advanced intraoral scanner that can digitally scan your teeth and gums for enhanced treatment planning and the creation of accurate, high-quality dental impressions. These digital impressions allow incredible precision in crafting better-fitting restorations, SureSmile® orthodontic aligners, and teeth whitening trays.

With advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, Dexis scanner® sends 3D scans of your teeth to a chair-side monitor so you and your cosmetic dentist can view them together and plan enhancements and repairs accordingly. Dexis scanner® can also optimise case planning by streamlining workflow and allowing our team to perform smile trials for digitally-planned treatments. This technology can greatly improve the patient experience by:

  • Eliminating the need for trays and putties
  • Providing an enhanced level of precision in the creation of digital teeth impressions as well as SureSmile® teeth-straightening trays
  • Significantly reducing, or even canceling, the need for impression retakes
  • Simulating potential orthodontic results, as well as the position of your teeth and gums on a chairside monitor

Since patients no longer have to bite down on dental putty to take impressions, Dexis scanner® has the additional benefit of optimal comfort for those who have a sensitive gag reflex. Dexis scanner® offers greater efficiency in planning your treatment as well as a precise 3D visualisation of your teeth and gums rendered in seconds.

A dental laser diode is a specialised type of laser diode used in various dental procedures for cutting, shaping, and treating soft and hard tissues in the oral cavity. These diode lasers emit light at specific wavelengths, primarily in the visible and near-infrared spectrum, which allows for precise and minimally invasive dental treatments. Here are some key points about dental laser diodes:

  • Wavelength: Dental laser diodes typically operate at wavelengths between 810 nanometers (nm) and 980 nm. The choice of wavelength depends on the specific dental procedure and the type of tissue being treated.
  • Soft Tissue Procedures: Dental laser diodes are commonly used for soft tissue procedures, such as gingivectomy (removal of gum tissue), frenectomy (removal of oral tissue), and treatment of lesions or ulcers in the mouth. The laser’s energy can be selectively absorbed by pigmented tissues, making it precise and minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Hard Tissue Procedures: In addition to soft tissue applications, some dental laser diodes can be used for hard tissue procedures like cavity preparation, tooth etching, and even minor dental surgeries. These lasers are effective for cutting tooth structure and bone.
  • Minimally Invasive: Dental laser procedures are often considered less invasive than traditional methods, leading to reduced discomfort and faster recovery times for patients. They can also reduce the need for anaesthesia in some cases.
  • Precision: Laser diodes offer high precision, allowing dentists to target specific areas accurately. This precision can result in better clinical outcomes.
  • Reduced Bleeding and Swelling: The laser’s ability to coagulate blood vessels and disinfect the treatment area can lead to reduced bleeding and swelling during and after procedures.
  • Safety: Dental laser diodes are generally safe when used by trained professionals. They minimize the risk of cross-contamination because they do not require direct contact with the tissue.
  • Eye Protection:It’s crucial to use appropriate eye protection (laser safety glasses) when operating dental laser diodes to protect the eyes from the laser’s intense light.
  • Maintenance: Like other medical equipment, dental laser diodes require proper maintenance and calibration to ensure their effectiveness and safety.

Dental laser technology continues to advance, and its applications in dentistry are expanding. However, the specific capabilities and features of a dental laser diode can vary depending on the manufacturer and model. Dentists who use laser technology in their practice receive specialized training to operate these devices safely and effectively.
